Hydrogen is a zero-emission energy carrier, which can play an important role in the transition to renewable energy. The current global hydrogen production still heavily relies on fossil fuels (>95%). Solar water splitting is an environmentally benign chemical process to produce green hydrogen directly. However, no economically competitive systems with fossil fuel-based hydrogen production processes have not been developed yet to meet at least a minimum requirement of 10% solar-to-hydrogen (STH) conversion efficiency. Therefore, the main goal of this project is to create a new research team at Aalborg University that will develop novel systems based on materials beyond the state of the art, which can be scaled up as photoanodes and photocathodes for achieving high STH efficiency. This project can open up new perspectives for designing efficient, stable, and scalable systems and generates new knowledge that will be advantageous in various other fields._x000D_
